first time mom stuff

We had great intentions to spend Thanksgiving with James's family.  I was hoping for a FULL day of lots and lots of food.  If anyone knows me, they know I have this obsession with food.  I love to make it, eat it, and EAT it!  I made homemade rolls, cheeseball, and banana cream pie! (all my Mom's recipe)

Wednesday evening Porter was sick, really sick.  It was a horrible, restless night full of crying both by Mommy and Baby.  Thursday morning (why did we wait until the morning?!) we called around and of course, no "after hours medical centers" were open.  So we took a drive to the hospital.  Porter had a bad case of croup.  What even is that?  (I'm being sarcastic, I'm pretty sure I could write an essay on it now.)

We spent four hours at the hospital - a shot, tylenol, breathing treatments and again crying by Mommy and Baby.  By the time we left, he was sounding and acting better.  We got home just in time to eat Thanksgiving dinner.  And then packed up our belongings and drove home - after Porter cried when we put him back in the car. (Oh!  But not before my little sister stopped by to see me - yes!)

And that was how we celebrated our Thanksgiving.  No pictures.  No exciting stories.  Just an exhausted, emotional - drained Mom who hadn't seen her baby so sad before.  I guess this is all part of being a Mom - trying to be strong when your baby is very sick and very sad.

Hope your Thanksgiving rocked - really, I do.  OH!  And I hope you went shopping this morning.  Who doesn't love Black Friday?  Unshowered people running around the store trying to get that beater for 2.99 or one of those movies for 1.96.  You have to admit it's absolutely hilarious and I'm sad we missed it this year.

expecto patronum

Harry is brave!  My favorite character is definitely Hermoine, she's hilarious.  I have a crush on Ron.  I wish I had twin brothers like Fred and George.  Ginny is adorable.  Oh my goodness Mr. and Mrs. Weasley - okay, let's be honest, I'm in love with the entire Weasley family.

And of course Luna and Neville - who could live without them?

I want Hagrid to be my friend.  I'm sad Dumbledore had to die (sorry - but didn't you see the 6th one?).  I really feel for Severus.  Mcgongall is my favorite teacher.  Sirius...what a rotten end to a rotten 14 years.  Remus and Tonks, faithful to Harry, so of course I love them!  The Malfoys - absolutely no sympathy.

And where in the world have I been the last ten years?  Why wasn't I reading these books while J.K. Rowling was sitting in that coffee shop writing them?  Why did no one convince me?  Now I'm reading them AFTER the movies and oh my goodness...my life is forever changed.

Seriously, I want to be a witch.  Hogwarts would have been my home away from home.  I would have made the Gryffindor(you think I would choose a different house - seriously?) quidditch team and been a seeker.  I would have fought with Harry against Voldermort.

Oh and my patronus - would have been a stag too.

P.S. James and I saw H.P. 7 Part I tonight.  Go freaking see it.

porter likes

Porter likes to talk (and play with my hoodie strings)

 And Mom of course

And even tummy time makes him smile (cause he can rollover when he gets tired)

He also likes to sit up...yeah...SIT UP and watch the Sound of Music
He also LOVES his Dad - he laughs every time James walks in the room.  But I didn't have a picture/video. (next time!)

music

I have this habit of breaking out into song at random times throughout the day.  I love to sing.
In the shower.  In the car.  As I'm making dinner.  All great times to bust out a song.
Which is why having a baby is the greatest thing in the world.
I always have an audience.
Porter laughs, smiles, and sometimes makes noises right along with my singing.
I sing and dance around him all day long.
I could entertain myself...I mean my baby for hours.
Glee songs, old musicals, pop songs, high school choir warm-ups/songs, church hymns, preschool songs - I sing it all.
And today it was this song that I sang to him: (songs from musicals are the best to sing!)

I finally stopped after the 4th or 5th time.  He just kept laughing - so I kept singing.
Ever wished your life could be like a musical?  Mine totally is...except I can't get others to break out in song and choreographed dance?
Ooo, but sometimes James does sing with me.  Awesome husband.

tuesdays

Our little family on our hike on Saturday (no connection with this post - I just liked it)
I love Tuesdays because Redbox gets a handful of new releases
I love Tuesdays because Glee is totally on tonight!
I love Tuesdays because the grocery ads come in the mail - yeah I'm addicted to buying groceries on sale
I love Tuesdays because it's mutual night.
Yup I'm the newest YW adviser for our ward.

friday

This morning we woke up to a very happy baby playing in his crib.  We brought him to our bed where we smiled at and tickled him.  Then James looked at me and said "Let's go out to breakfast!"  So we hurried and showered so we could look nice on our outing - because it's a rare occasion for us to eat out.
"We're too poor."  "We're trying to save money." "We're going to school." - you know those lines...blah!
Tonight we have plans to play the Wii with some friends.
Tomorrow we're going on a hike with some more friends.
Ah...life freaking rocks.
Happy Weekend!

laundry

For the past two months, we have had the horrible task of doing our laundry at a laundry mat.  I know, I know...I must have been so spoiled.
But in college, there was a very clean laundry facility in our complex.  When I moved to Utah, we had a washer/dryer in our apartment.
When James and I got married, we had our own in our apartment as well.  The apartment we moved into in Logan...no hookups.  It's awful.
We go almost every week - Porter goes through clothes like crazy...and burp rags and blankets.  And how many pairs of underwear do you really have?  Could you last several weeks?  Awful.
But behind our ghetto looking apartment building there is this room...James broke into it.
It houses the boiler (which makes loud scary noises sometimes) and....HOOK UPS for a washer and dryer!
James spent a few hours cleaning it out, because for some reason it was full of junk.  Who's junk - I don't know?  And today he put our washer and dryer in there.
I am so happy.  No more laundry mat.  Just a quick jog to the back of the building with a load of laundry.  Awesome.
(no picture...because then you'll see how ghetto our place is - ha!)
